when you print out your photos, you may want to know how to choose the
photo paper. Firstly, there are two styles photo papers (glossy &
matte coated photo paper) to print out photos. There are noticeable
differences between the two. However, what is the difference between
glossy & coated photo paper? In your daily life, you may know the
glossy prints are shiny, and matte prints have a dull finish. A good
example of glossy paper is a magazine page. A good example of matte
paper is a piece of paper from a spiral notebook.
Glossy Photo Paper
Glossy photo paper has
bright, vibrant colors. The shiny surface tends to be eye-catching and
pleasing to viewers. Colors are more vibrant and vivid. Additionally, if
your images were in focus when you took the pictures, the photos print
crisp images. There are multiple finishes available, such as high gloss,
gloss, soft gloss or semi-gloss, which indicates the degree of
shininess of the paper.
Matte Coated Photo Paper
Matte coated photo paper
is easier to view from all angles and in all kinds of light because the
surface does not easily reflect light. The surface does not readily
show fingerprints or smudges.
Matte photo paper isn't coated with gloss, so glares and reflections
aren't as noticeable. The images appear a bit duller than with glossy
paper, because matte paper isn't as shiny, but images on matte paper can
be as clear for certain photos. Additionally, because the matte paper
is duller, it is better for printing text than photos. More advanced
products have improved the image quality of photo prints.
Notice
When printing with either paper, wait for the photo to dry completely.
That decreases the chance of getting smudges and fingerprints on your
photos.
